Greetings!
My name is Nolen Frazier and I am currently a senior at North Carolina Central University from Winston-Salem NC. I am a recreational administration major with a concentration in sports management, and a minor in sports coaching. After I obtain my bachelor's degree I plan on going into graduate school to obtain my master's degree in athletic administration. My goal is to become a head supervisor and coordinator for my own recreational facility as well as becoming a youth sports coach as I have always been around sports and have spent countless time watching a ton of film, studying the game, and have been a former athlete myself. My inspiration stems from my older brother who majored in kinesiology and my long-time basketball trainer and mentor who both graduated from UNCG. I stand by a personal quote that my coach always told my team before every game or practice "Nothing is given; everything is earned."
Career Goals and Professional Experience
Over the past four years I've had the opportunity to work with many other students, and professionals in the sports management field. I have been working and interning at Duke University for the past seven months now for their recreational aide department and intramural sports. I've also have worked for NC Central's Recreation and Wellness team as an intramural sports assistant where I also officiate different sports. Outside of my recreational jobs I have been officiating youth basketball and football games to for the past year.
A goal that I want to accomplish next is to continue to expand and build upon this experience that I have gained by moving up the working latter and continue to network and build relationships.
Professional Interests
Some professional interests that I have are journalism, coaching, and financial investment.
Financial investment is important because in order for me to be able run my own sports facility I will need to know how to save and manage my money in order to put in stock into your business and budget.
Coaching is important to me professionally because I am minoring in coaching and have always played sports and now when watching and even when I am officiating, I try to think and analyze the game just like a coach would, and even help out some of the players and give them advice after games because I want to see them succeed.
Sports journalism is important to me because I always find myself reading different articles about different sporting leagues, news, and events. I also took a journalism course before back in high school because I once did want to pursue a journalism career where I would have the chance to commentate and analyze different games on a high level for example like work for ESPN one day and even still find myself commentating games to myself when I am watching any sport.
